CGI expects that more than 90% of your donation will be disbursed among the three designated charities. We have costs that are fixed and costs that are variable. Variable costs include costs per transaction (for example, software licensing fees which are charged per donor) and cost per dollar (for example, credit card processing costs which are charged as a percent of the donation amount). Fixed costs include, for example, the cost of an annual audit of our financial statements.
The fixed costs create the biggest variability in what percentage gets disbursed to the charities. For example, if the cost of an audit is $5,000 and we raise $100,000, the audit would represent an expense of 5% of donations. If we raised $1,000,000, the cost of the audit would represent .5%. Because of our fixed costs, the more money we raise, the greater percentage goes to charity. In all cases, however, we expect that more than 90% of your donations will go to the charities.
